Loving God, Neighbor, Lakeland

Our Outreach Ministry

We have a slogan that reflects the way that our church views our place in the community, “Loving God, Neighbor, and Lakeland."

All things are possible through Christ, and with His guidance, our love for the community and its people has grown in exciting ways.

God has led us to engage our brothers and sisters by going into neighborhoods and lending our hands to deliver food, mow lawns, and pray for residents.

Sometimes, showing up for people is scary because we don’t know what to say or do. We pressure ourselves to say the right thing or have all the answers when we were never called to do that.

But we are called to love our neighbors as ourselves and to serve others. It's not about having all the answers. It's about showing up with a heart full of love and a willingness to serve.

Ways We Serve

Outreach events and participation take place throughout the year, often in partnership with local organizations or alongside other ministries:

  • quarterly outreach projects
  • partnerships with residents of N. Lake Wire
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast

Partnerships

Our outreach ministries partner with and support the following local community organizations and services:

  • North Lake Wire Neighborhood

Members of our parish, along with other outreach groups, gather twice per year to clean up, lift up, and fellowship with our brothers and sisters.

  • Dream Center of Lakeland

At the Dream Center of Lakeland, we believe the best way to help others is by starting right where we are. That's why, every day, community members and volunteers come together to share lives and hope with each other. Whether through one of our youth programs, a neighborhood clean-up, or one of the many different events, we are always looking for ways to make life-long impacts on families and neighborhoods in Lakeland, FL.

  • Anchor House

Anchor House Ministries is a faith-based organization serving youth in crisis in Central Florida. Founded in 1974, we provide care for young people referred to us by the state, many of whom have experienced abuse, neglect, or abandonment. It is difficult for many of these youth to find a placement and receive the care they need. Anchor House is one of the few facilities in the Polk County area that provides youth in crisis with hope. We work alongside them to provide life skills training, education support, counseling, and hands-on experiences to prepare them for the future.

  • Senior Orphans

Senior Orphans of Polk County was founded over twenty-five years ago to assist those less fortunate. The idea came from attending an organizational meeting of service programs in Polk County. The original goal was to help local, indigent seniors with no family support and monthly incomes of $400 or less. Today, that amount has increased to include those with monthly incomes of $600 or less. Senior Orphans is 100% volunteer-driven with no administrative costs.

Why Volunteer?

It can be hard to find time to volunteer, especially with busy lives. However, the benefits of volunteering can be enormous. Volunteering offers vital help to people in need and the community, but the benefits can be even greater for you, the volunteer.

Giving to others can also help protect your mental and physical health. It can reduce stress, combat depression, keep you mentally stimulated, and provide a sense of purpose.

While it’s true that the more you volunteer, the more benefits you’ll experience, volunteering doesn’t have to involve a long-term commitment or take a lot of time out of your busy day.

If the Bible tells us anything, God is generous and loves to serve. We see that in Jesus, who said He came not to be served but to serve. And all of us are made in His image.

So, we were created to selflessly serve others with the talents, time, and other resources God entrusted to us. Volunteering allows us to represent a God who voluntarily chooses to pour blessings on all in need.
