Spiritual Formation

Spiritual Formation

Christian spiritual formation is the process of being conformed to the image of Jesus

for the glory of the Father. It is made possible through the work of the Holy Spirit.

At All Saints', we care about the spiritual growth of each person as a comprehensive, lifelong process of deepening one's relationship with God and neighbor to become more like Jesus Christ in body, mind, and spirit. It is what should happen as we encounter and respond to the gospel.

  • Practices
    Spiritual formation includes worship, meditation on scripture, contemplative and intercessory prayer, devotional reading, Christian education classes, work ethic, giving, using gifts and talents, and engagement with community.

  • Community
    Practices which involve participating in the lives of others are powerful tools for spiritual formation. Our lives in Jesus Christ are centered on relationship with him and with each other as the body of Christ. To practice and embody our Christian ethics in community, All Saints' offers:
  • events throughout the year for fellowship;
  • small groups which allow for conversation-based learning;
  • serving on a ministry team for the church;
  • Performing Arts concerts and Jam Sessions to inspire and bring people together around music;
  • First Friday hospitality ministry and fellowship downtown; and
  • outreach ministry in the N. Lake Wire neighborhood.
  • Retreats are also a powerful way to grow in Christ through community-based reflection and sharing.

  • Transformation
    The goal is transforming one's heart, character, and daily aspirations to be more like Jesus Christ.

  • Guidance
    The Holy Spirit guides the process of spiritual formation. In addition to listening for the Spirit through the practices of daily living already mentioned, the Sacrament of reconciliation of a penitent (confession), pastoral counseling or spiritual direction, as well as prayer ministry appointments are available to help listen to the Holy Spirit's teaching.

We intend and hope that all our pastoral care, worship, education, service, fellowship, hospitality, and outreach opportunities nourish the lives and spiritual formation of our members.

Consider how you are growing in Christ

One of our First Friday gatherings in downtown Lakeland

Through intentional fellowship in our church's neighborhood, we engage in a practice of spiritual formation: we can learn to be more like Jesus with hospitality of presence toward friend and stranger; and we learn to be ambassadors for our church in our downtown community through our words and actions.
